After four
years and 102 articles on the subject of The War in the Gulf, it seemed
like a good idea to combine them all together in one book. This is the
result of that decision.
Here is a combination of newspaper articles I wrote for “The Courier”
starting in December 2000 and ending in November 2004—no more, no less.
Some subjects are covered twice, sometimes from different viewpoints or
as new information becomes available which can add to the overall
knowledge of the subject.
The source of information for this presentation varies wildly. The most
commonly used is a series of documents from the US Office of Naval
Intelligence (ONI) during the war.
There are also interviews, newspaper articles and some published works.
Most commonly used published sources are: “Axis Submarine Successes,”
Jurgen Rahmer; “Merchant Vessel Losses in World War II,” Robert
Browning; “A Careless Word, A Needless Sinking,” Capt. Arthur Moore,
and others too numerous to mention.
Coverage of this subject is intentionally broader than the naval history
alone. Anyone who lived along the Gulf Coast in World War II can relate
to most of the subjects covered here.
I hope to entertain by informing.
